Australia Post installed new parcel sorting machines last year. ABC reports that 20 percent of the parcels are being misdirected.  Parcels are being sent on 1800km detours (as described here) . It is certainly our experience that parcels are taking a lot longer, with a recent parcel from queensland taking more than two weeks.

It seems this is yet another Australia Post IT failure, with the misdirected parcels being blamed on the parcel sorting machine interacting badly with 5 different Australia Post IT systems.
